Target Population: African American Men who Have HIV Who Have Sex With Men. Early focus on outreach at popular venues, establishing linkages with HIV testing programs, and developing peer-to-peer recruitment protocols. Group level activities via weekly drop-in education and social support (peer-led) groups, as well as community social events and a weekend retreat. For more information, call (510) 663-7979.

Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center

Target Population: Asian and Pacific Islander Gay Men and Transgendered Persons. Multi-faceted intervention that includes social support and community-building (monthly theme-based events, annual events), a general health and wellness program (nutrition and exercise information and support), treatment and education workshops (Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced), group psychotherapy (a series of three 6 to 8-week sessions offering support and problem-solving skills), and individual psychotherapy. Target Population: Gay and Bisexual Men. The program gives positive men a chance to meet and socialize with each other, and offers a safe environment where these individuals can have open discussions about sex, dating, personal health, and other issues relevant to their lives. Target Population: Incarcerated Individuals with HIV. As part of a CDC-funded initiative, Centerforce offers a two-week, eight-session health promotion intervention for inmates with HIV preparing to be released from prison. Target Population: Intravenous drug users. INSPIRE is a behavioral intervention to lower sexual and drug use risk, increase access to care, and increase adherence to HAART (Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy) regimens. For more information call (415) 597-9267.

Learning Immune Function Enhancement (LIFE)

Target Population: Individuals with HIV. Learning Immune Function Enhancement (LIFE) is a 16-week group utilizing a "biopsychosocial" approach that looks at internal psychological responses and external social factors that affect immunity. During the course of the program, participants learn how these issues affect the reduction of risky behavior, optimal functioning of the immune system, and adherence to health routines. The L.I.F.E. Target Population: Individuals with HIV. This program consists of a weekend seminar that aims to equip individuals with the personal and interpersonal skills to enhance health, quality of life, and relationships. The seminar is fun, interactive, never too heavy, and it offers participants the opportunity to commit to engaging in HIV risk reducing behaviors. Mano a Mano

Target Population: Monolingual Spanish, Men who have Sex with Men. Mano a Mano is a five-session workshop series (2 series for couples and 3 for singles) facilitated by a peer counselor and a prevention case manager. Topics include sexual orientation, sexual roles, disclosure and coming out issues, the interplay of desire, passion, and guilt, relationships and communication, and, finally, community action steps and leadership development. Target Population: Individuals with HIV. Positive Images is a collaboration among the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team, Being Alive/Long Beach, Being Alive/Los Angeles, Bienestar Human Services, Common Ground, Minority AIDS Project, Sunrise Community Counseling Center, Tarzana Treatment Center, and Women Alive. Target Population: People with HIV/AIDS and their loved ones. The Positive Living for Us Program consists of weekend seminars. During each program, participants learn about the latest HIV treatments, alternative therapies, nutrition, legal issues, stress management and more. In addition, participants are assigned support groups that meet periodically throughout the seminar to share feelings and discuss life situations.
